Black Rock Shooter after episode 08 – Final Thoughts

In a shower of bright kaleidoscopic colors, explosions, and passionate yelling, thus ends eight episodes of what essentially is exaggerated drama of adolescent school girls. While I appreciate the eye-candy and the action, I am somewhat disappointed the anime didn’t do more with the secondary world.
The behavior of the school counselor puzzled me a bit. Why would she be so cruel? The only somewhat plausible explanation that I could think of is this: these junior high school girls have a tendency to bottle up and not deal with their emotions. Saya the counselor recognizes this, and so she makes blunt and incisive remarks, in hopes of making them cry and relieving of their inner pain. That, or she has mental problems of her own. I’m more inclined to believe the latter.
Black Rock Shooter is buoyed by its more interesting and entertaining spiritual world. Without it, this anime would be little more than dramatization of teenage girls trying to deal with relationships in school. Yawn.
