Sasami-san@Ganbaranai after episode 01 – First Impressions

With a caricature of a brother obsessively doting on his younger sister and his face always covered, a girl shooting out of a ravine like a cannon, landing with nary a scratch then pretending to be a frog, and the entire world turning into chocolate, you would think I would be thoroughly entertained. Not so. I was unimpressed with its first episode. Here is an anime that is casually nonchalant, eccentric, has no substance, and certainly does not take one bit of itself seriously. It reminds me of my favorite anime of last year: Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita. While Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita was actually humourous, this…just wasn’t. It’s a little too random, too pointless, too gimmicky. Already after the first episode I cannot stand Sasami’s older brother. And the schtick of the whole world turning into chocolate…was that suppose to be funny or entertaining? Maybe there was a giant joke or satire that just flew over my head.
I’m not really interested in continuing Sasami-san@Ganbaranai, but I will give it a few more episodes to convince me otherwise.
